First dates are for you to give not just a good, but great impression to your date. This is the first time your date will see you in a private setting, enjoying a meal and silently judging you whether you will be worthy enough to be taken out on a second date. Cringe-worthy, right?
In today’s age, going out on dates and meeting new people have evolved to the creation of apps such as Tinder, Grindr, Hornett, OKC, etc. You will be meeting utter strangers with the hopes of forming an everlasting relationship with them, be it platonic or romantic, depending on what you DO on the date.
Getting a meal is the preferred way of going on dates, so, in order to make you look good in their books, try not to eat the food listed below.
1. Garlic
In our country, there is almost no food that is without some garlic in it (we love the taste of them sweet, sweet garlic). However, the smell of garlic does not exactly spells romance. When you go out on first dates, try to find a dish for the least amount of garlic.
So your date will fall for your charms and sparkling personality, instead of passing out because of your garlicky breath constantly wafting toward them.
2. Sambal Belacan
Nothing completes a meal more than a sambal belacan. The taste of the salty shrimp and the spiciness of the cili padi can change a flavour of a dish in just one mouthful. However, not all things that taste good will smell good and belacan, unfortunately, falls into that category.
The worst thing about belacan is the stench lingers and sticks to your hands, hair and clothes. It is quite of a turn off for your date to feel uneasy and uncomfortable.
3. Shellfish
Who does not love someone who loves to eat? But, when it comes to going on first dates, you do not want to look as if you are more interested to eat your food than having conversations with your date.
Steer clear from any food that you’ll need to use your fingers a lot. It will distract your attention from listening how your date loves to rock climb and run with tigers. Keep the shellfish for the 100th date.
4. Bone Marrow
Just like the shellfish, eating bone marrow requires some finger and sucking skills (please, wipe off that grin). In other words, you need to get down and dirty when eating that! However, you do not want to show THAT skills of yours during first dates.
If eating shellfish is going to distract yourself from your date, sucking on bone marrow will make your date distracted too. Either with disgust or with some other ill-intention.
5. Big Leafy Greens
Good dental hygiene is considered as one of the look-for personality a person would want their partner to have and during first dates, people are not usually logical since they will be very critical of what they see on you.
Even though you are a very clean and hygienic person, but if you have something stuck in your teeth, that will be the last time you will be going on a date with them. So, when you are eating salad, make sure you swipe over your teeth, now and then.
6. Banana Leaf Rice
You got to admit, some of us do not eat properly with our hands. I still remember being told by my aunties and nenek, that a girl that can eat properly only using the tips of her fingers, it means she is ready to become a mother and a wife.
So, if this is the way a person measures someone’s suitability to become one’s partner, most of us will be single. So, in this case, prevent from going to a banana leaf joint because you do not want to go from sexy to sloppy in your date’s eyes.
7. Durian
Durian may tastes good but again the smell is as worse as eating belacan and garlic. If your date is not a fan of durian, you must not reveal your love for durian just yet. So, do not invite or even have a pre-date durian snack because if you do, your date’s sensitive nose will know and tell you on their way out.
So, there you go, people, the 7 things that people should not eat when they are going on a date, especially a first date. If you happen to eat all of them before meeting your dare or even during the date itself, make sure you bring a tiny mouthwash, chewing gum and some perfume to cover it all up.
