It’s spring in Japan. Can you imagine being among the blooming pink bursts of cherry blossoms? Not many of us are privileged enough to experience this magical season in Japan but what we can do is experience the food! Award winning Genji Hilton Petaling Jaya has crafted a menu featuring items popularly served during this season.
Blossoms on the Menu
An item heavily featured on the spring menu is nano hana otherwise known as rape blossom. Nano hana is a vegetable harvested in spring and is a natural source of energy containing high fiber, iron and protein. It is served blanched, as teppanyaki and features in the maki rolls and wagyu beef on offer.
Spring’s most celebrated ingredient is also on the menu. Genji’s specially air flown sea bream or Tai is served two ways. This includes Tai Sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi, and Tai Misoyaki, which is grilled with sweet miso sauce. Fun fact, did you know that Tai is linked with the Japanese word medetai, signifying a fortunate event?
Melting in your Mouth Melons
What about dessert you ask? No full course meal is complete without that sweet note at the end. Never fear, on the menu is Japanese Muskmelon. Now, this is not your typical melon. As many of you know, fruits are a beloved luxurious commodity in Japan. Biting into the muskmelon, you’ll be able to taste the decadence of it all. The flesh of the fruit seems to melt in your mouth! It’s the perfect way to end a satisfying meal.
